How To Freshen Up Your Front Porch This Summer

Refreshing Your Front Porch for Summer

This summer, you might find yourself contemplating the projects you want to complete around your home. One project we recommend during late spring and early summer is a front porch refresh. Depending on size and other factors, your front porch might be a place where you relax or the focal point of your home's exterior. Join Stone Harbor Hardware today as we cover a few ways you can enhance your home's curb appeal by freshening up your front porch this summer!

Add or Upgrade Seating

Should you have the space available on your front porch, a great way to freshen it up is by adding new or upgrading existing seating. For smaller porches, a bench or a few rocking chairs are great seating options to consider. If you have a larger porch or even a front deck that offers more space, you might want to consider adding a porch swing, a unique seating arrangement, or even a small day bed. Remember, add a bit of color to your seating by incorporating throw pillows or colorful cushions.

Show Off Your Green Thumb

Your front porch is a great place for you to show off your horticulture skills. Adding plants is a great way to enhance the curb appeal of your home, particularly your front porch. Flanking your front doors with floor planters, incorporating some colorful annuals in hanging planters, or even creating a small container garden are all great ways to show off your green thumb and update your front porch.

Try a Fresh Coat of Paint or Stain

One of the easiest ways to update your front porch or deck is by adding a fresh coat of paint or stain. A new coat of paint on trim, window shutters, railing, or columns can go a long way. Re-staining wood surfaces not only enhances them visually but also helps to protect them from weather conditions. You could also consider painting your porch ceiling as well!

Upgrade Entryway Hardware

Finally, upgrading the hardware associated with your home's entryway is another excellent way that you can refresh your front porch. You could swap out your front door locks with a new entry knob or lever and a matching deadbolts or you could install a new handleset for a more integrated design. Additionally, you could install house numbers directly on a porch post, or build a custom house number sign like our friend and collaborator, Jackie, did in her ongoing porch refresh for the One Room Challenge.
